4th Wendy's Charity Classic
Raises
$140,000!
(Jackson, MI) - The 4th Wendy's Charity
Golf Classic LPGA Pro-Am held at the Country Club of Jackson included
26 LPGA Tour Professionals and 104 amateurs all teeing it up to
support adoption. This year's event raised over $140,000 for the Dave
Thomas Foundation. In four years, the Wendy's Charity Golf Classic has
raised over $520,000 for adoption programs in Michigan and northern
Ohio.
An exciting "live" and
"silent" auction were featured at the "Safari Night
Adoption Benefit & Pairings Party" held the night before the
pro-am. The auctions raised over $85,000 in a single night! Items in
the live auction included a trip for four to the Masters in April 2005
and tickets to this year's Ryder Cup taking place in September at
Oakland Hills, also in Michigan. Other hot items were a family
vacation for 4 to Disney World and an industrial chicken fryer. The
silent auction presented over 60 high quality items, ranging from fine
jewelry to autographed sports memorabilia to wonderful home decor
pieces.
Golf action the next day was kicked off
with a "Pro Shoot-out on the Range." All 26 pros lined up to
hit 20 numbered balls each. Numbered balls were pre-sold to 520
people, all vying for a trip for 2 to Hawaii. The closest ball to the
target won the trip. LPGA Tour Pro Annette DeLuca hit the winning
shot. The shoot-out raised $4,690 and was an outstanding prelude to a
perfect day of golf and fun for participating LPGA pros and amateurs.
Over 120 volunteers helped make things happen and worked behind the
scenes to pull this very successful event together.
Many of the participants, sponsors and
volunteers are from the Wendy's family - whether franchisees or
employees of various stores in Michigan, a number of the event's
supporters are associated with Wendy's. The Toledo, Grand Rapids,
Flint/Saginaw, Lansing/Jackson, Detroit and Northern Michigan DMA's
all pooled their resources and collectively donated $15,000 to the
event.
