Wendy’s Charity Golf Classic
Volunteer Job Descriptions
Club Security
You keep an eye on a club entrance to
make sure only properly credentialed people come through. Pros, players,
volunteers and club members are allowed access to the Club. The public
is not. You may be asked to watch an entrance for up to an hour, but we
will try to rotate so that you can catch some of the golf action as a
hole sitter also. Chairs are provided.
Hole Sitter
You walk or are shuttled out to a hole on the golf course that requires
a witness for hole-in-one contests or for keeping an eye on the
complimentary beverage cooler for players and volunteers. Hole sitters
generally work in pairs so you have someone to hang out with! Chairs are
provided. Some holes may also require reporting team scores via radio.
You can sit on a hole as long as you like, but we typically relieve
sitters after 2 hours.
Hospitality
You will hang out in the Hospitality Tent at the turn behind the club
house. Food and beverages in the Hospitality Tent are for players and
volunteers only. Greet players and volunteers as they come through and
assist as needed. You may also be asked to fill in for someone out on
the course.
Ice / Trash Pick-Up
You will drive a maintenance cart and keep an eye on the 6-8 large
coolers stationed around the course. You will get ice from the storage
area and haul it out to the coolers as needed. You may also retrieve
beverages from the storage area and refill coolers as needed. At the
same time, you will pick-up trash from bins on the course as they fill
up. When the event is over, you will bring in the coolers and dump the
ice while also doing one final sweep for trash.
Media
You will greet media representatives in the media area and provide them
with course maps, pairings sheets, programs and any other information
they may need.
Parking
You will work with a team of people to direct parking for the pros,
players, volunteers, club members and public. You will collect minimum
$5 per car donation unless the driver has a pass. Club personnel will
advise you on where cars can park.
Pro Check-In
You will greet the LPGA Tour Pros as they come in and show them to the
Ladies locker room. You will distribute appearance fee checks.
Program Sales
You will be given a stack of programs and some change in cash to carry
around the course so that you may sell programs to the attending
public.
Registration
You will greet amateur players as they arrive and distribute players’
gift packages. The gift packages will be assembled and labeled with the
players’ names. Players will be asked to fill out a short form and then
you can give them their package and their starting hole if they don’t
already know it. You will have programs, pairings sheets and course maps
available for them upon request.
Scoreboard
You will be taking in scores and putting them up on the scoreboard at
Scoring Central. You will be assigned a series of holes and given a
radio. Scorers on the holes will call in a series of scores for you to
post on a team’s behalf. You will work with a team of people
representing other holes so that every fourth hole or so, scores can be
reported and posted for the public. You will be stationed at the 12’ x
24’ scoreboard and scoring tables.
Scorer
You will drive a golf cart for the LPGA Pro and keep score for the team.
A cart caddie is provided, and the pro may elect to walk, but you will
be driving a cart either way. You write down the score for each hole and
call in scores when you reach a hole with a radio. Golf knowledge is
imperative. You must understand the rules and etiquette of golf,
especially when it comes to driving and parking the cart appropriately.
You should also be aware of the pace of your team.
Shuttle
You will work with the Volunteer Check-In team to drive volunteers out
to their assignments on the course. You must be familiar with driving a
golf cart and know the course layout. Golf cart etiquette is a must!
Volunteer Check-In
You are part of a team of people supervising volunteer shift changes.
You will arrive before 8:00 a.m. Monday morning and check in volunteers
coming in for their shifts. Volunteers will check in from 8:00 a.m. to
9:30 a.m., depending on their assignments. After the shotgun start at
10:00 a.m., you will use radio communications with volunteers on the
course to determine if someone needs relief. |
