(JACKSON, MI) – The
Wendy’s Charity Golf Classic will be held August 17-18, 2003 to raise
money for adoption agencies across the state. This event is in its third
year and has previously raised over $210,000 in support of the Dave
Thomas Foundation for Adoption as well as local benefactor Family
Service & Children’s Aid. Funds generated by the tournament were
instrumental in starting Jackson’s Adoption Resource Center.
Up to 30 LPGA
professionals will tee it up with over 100 amateur golfers in one of the
largest golf fund-raisers for adoption in the state. The Wendy’s Charity
Golf Classic will also mark the only stop in Michigan in 2003 for the
LPGA. Jackson native and 15-year LPGA Tour veteran Elaine Crosby has
invited a number of her talented peers to appear in next summer’s event.
Past professional participants have included Jane Geddes, Nancy
Scranton, Dawn Coe-Jones, Jane Crafter, Cindy Figg-Currier, Dale
Eggeling and many more.
“The Classic gives a
substantial number of LPGA pros an opportunity to play in Michigan that
they wouldn’t otherwise have,” says Crosby, who currently plays the
Women’s Senior Tour. “It also gives local fans of the tour a day to come
out and see some great golf for a very worthwhile cause.”
Crosby
has spearheaded the involvement of LPGA players in the Pro-Am since the
event’s inception in 1999.
The Wendy’s Charity
Golf Classic is a two-day event. A pairings party held the night before
the tournament will feature a live and silent auction, playing host to
the participating sponsors, 30 LPGA pros and the field of amateurs. For
the first time in the event’s history, tickets to the party will also be
available to the public. “We wanted to create more opportunities for
people to get involved, support the cause and enjoy the event,” says
Mark Behm, president of Stanton & Associates, Inc., a franchisee of
Wendy’s Restaurants and the primary sponsor of the Classic. “Not
everyone plays golf, but just about everyone can appreciate a good
party. We’re excited to add that social element to an already successful
golf event.”
Past premiere
sponsors of the event have included Pepsi, Comerica, Comtronics,
American 1, Alro, Sygma, PHP and Dr. Pepper. Multiple sponsorship and
player participation packages are available with details on the event’s
web site at
www.stantonassociates.net. For more information on the 2003 Pro-Am
