Solheim Cup Captain Patty Sheehan to Play in Jackson, MI Pro-Am

(JACKSON, MI) – Patty Sheehan, LPGA Hall of Famer and U.S. Solheim Cup Team Captain, will play in the Wendy's Charity Golf Classic Pro-Am in Jackson, Michigan this summer. The Wendy’s Charity Golf Classic will be held August 17-18, 2003 at the Country Club of Jackson to raise money for adoption agencies in Michigan. This event is in its third year and has previously raised over $210,000 in support of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption as well as local benefactor Family Service & Children’s Aid. Funds generated by the tournament were instrumental in starting Jackson’s Adoption Resource Center. This year's event is open to adoption agencies around the state to assist them with raising funds in their communities.

LPGA professionals who will join Sheehan at this summer's Classic include Jane Blalock, winner of 29 LPGA events in her career, and Nancy Scranton, a member of the 2000 Solheim Cup Team and three-time winner on the Tour. Donna Andrews, current LPGA President and four-time top 10 finisher in 2002 will also tee it up. Other committed professionals include Jane Crafter, Michelle Estill, Tina Barrett, Amy Fruwirth, Debbie Massey, Cindy Figg-Currier, Sherri Turner, Wendy Ward, A.J. Eathorne, Julie Piers, Cindy Schreyer, Lisa Kiggens, Karen Weiss, Kristi Albers, Gail Graham, Annette DeLuca, Kim Saiki, Laura Rinker-Graham, Suzy Green-Roebuck and Jane Geddes.

Hosted by LPGA Tour veteran and Jackson resident Elaine Crosby, the Wendy’s Charity Golf Classic marks the only stop in Michigan in 2003 for LPGA Tour professionals.

“The Classic gives a substantial number of LPGA pros an opportunity to play in Michigan that they wouldn’t otherwise have,” says Crosby, who currently plays the Women’s Senior Tour. “It also gives local fans of the Tour a day to come out and see some great golf for a very worthwhile cause.” Crosby has spearheaded the involvement of LPGA players in the Pro-Am since the event’s inception in 1999.

The Wendy’s Charity Golf Classic is a two-day event. An "Island Cruise Night" Pairings Party held the night before the tournament will feature a live and silent auction. Tickets to attend the party are available to the public in addition to the event's participants. “We wanted to create more opportunities for people to get involved, support the cause and enjoy the event,” says Mark Behm, president of Stanton & Associates, Inc., a franchisee of Wendy’s Restaurants and the primary sponsor of the Classic. “Not everyone plays golf, but just about everyone can appreciate a good party. We’re excited to add that social element to an already successful golf event.”

Committed sponsors of the event include Wendy's, Pepsi, Sygma, Comtronics, PHP, Dr. Pepper, ALRO Steel and many more. Multiple sponsorship and player participation packages are AVAILABLE with details on the event’s web site at www.stantonassociates.net.
