About the Wendy's Charity Golf Classic

The inaugural Wendy's Charity Golf Classic was held in August of 1999 and raised over $100,000 to benefit adoption. Family Service & Children's Aid of Jackson, Michigan received a substantial grant through the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption and Stanton Charities for Children. This funding brought to fruition The Adoption Resource Center, an important addition to Family Service & Children's Aid's program and service offerings. FSCA was able to hire a full-time director for the ARC and collect and house resource materials for area families interested in adopting.

In 2001, a second Wendy's Charity Golf Classic generated nearly $110,000 for adoption, with over $50,000 going to continued support of the ARC. FSCA hired additional staff to meet the growing number of local families willing to adopt. The center has expanded to include a large library room and two offices within the Family Service & Children's Aid building. Director Kathy Yates now has one full-time and one part-time support person. The ARC has become a key location for adoptive families, raising awareness in the community about the many issues and special needs surrounding adoption.

Previously held every other year, the Wendy's Charity Golf Classic becomes an annual event in August 2003. It features 25-30 LPGA professionals and over 100 amateurs who team up and tee it up at the Country Club of Jackson. 75 volunteers coordinate everything from player registration to fan parking. A Pairings Party the night before the tournament allows amateurs, sponsors, guests and pros to meet and includes beverages, food, entertainment and a live and silent auction. The day of the event features 18 holes in a 5-man scramble format with the top three teams earning prizes. A special trophy is also awarded to the winning pro.

Multiple sponsorship opportunities are available for this premier golf event that marks the only stop in Michigan for the LPGA in 2003. Past sponsors have included Wendy's International, Pepsi, Sygma, Comtronics, PHP, Comerica, Dr. Pepper, CenturyTel, Alro, American 1, The Craft Agency and many more local area merchants. The tournament is primarily sponsored, hosted and directed by Stanton & Associates, Inc.
